Admission Requirements for Boarding Schools

Since nearly all partner boarding schools represented by Level Up teach in English, strong English proficiency is the primary requirement.

Students between the ages of 14 and 19 who demonstrate maturity, motivation, and readiness for life abroad are eligible to apply. Schools welcome excellent students, but also strong and motivated students who show commitment and readiness for the experience.

Typical admission requirements
  • One of the recognized English-language tests (TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or Cambridge certificates)
  • Three teacher recommendations (English, Mathematics, and one elective subject)
  • School transcripts and report cards
  • A successful interview with the school’s admissions representative
  • Evidence of achievements in competitions, extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and similar engagements

For athletes, additional documentation is required — highlight videos, official athletic results, and proof of sports achievements.

With every student, we apply to multiple schools to maximize options and secure the strongest possible offer.

Why Apply With Us?

At Level Up Scholarships, our goal is to help every student access high-quality education abroad. We strive to ensure that every candidate who enters our program successfully completes the process and thrives in their new academic environment.

We approach every student as an individual, with their own story, strengths, and talents. Our role is to highlight those strengths, present each candidate in the best possible way, and secure both admission and, when possible, a scholarship.

With years of personal experience studying at an international boarding school and through long-term collaboration with more than a hundred high schools across the United States and Europe, our insight is truly invaluable.

Every year, we personally visit the schools we work with — including those attended by our students — to ensure they provide a safe, supportive, and high-quality environment

We fully understand how significant this decision is for both parents and students, especially when sending a minor abroad. Families often worry about safety, living arrangements, meals, supervision, and day-to-day life. Your child’s safety is our top priority.

This is precisely why we primarily collaborate with boarding schools: many have centuries-long traditions of educating students from around the world and well-structured systems that keep students engaged, supported, and surrounded by a strong community.

High School Programs We Offer

We offer boarding school placements across the United States and Europe. Your choice will depend on your interests, goals, motivations, and long-term plans.

United States

For students from the Balkans, the U.S. is often the most popular choice — primarily due to scholarship opportunities and strong athletic programs.

American high schools provide direct pathways to U.S. universities, while applying to universities in other countries may require an additional credential evaluation (nostrification).

During their time in high school, students work closely with a college counselor, who helps them select universities, understand requirements, and complete applications. Many boarding schools also organize college fairs, bringing representatives from top U.S. and global universities directly to campus.

Europe

The tradition of boarding schools is longest in the United Kingdom, with some partner schools dating back to the early Middle Ages. Other European countries — such as Spain, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy — developed this model in the past century.

The prestige and privilege of attending these schools leave a lasting impact, preparing students not only for academic success but for life in a global, competitive world.
